DDHS hosted Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians The Hon. Linda Burney, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy and local member Luke Gosling last month to learn more about the work we do.
Topics of discussion included:
The need for a culturally safe, multidisciplinary neurodevelopment assessment and treatment service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids living in Darwin;
The need for better coordination of Youth Justice services in the NT;
The primary health services we provide to young people at Don Dale Youth Detention Centre; and
The launch of our new Healing and Recovery Service – providing aftercare to clients and their families following a suicidal crisis.
CEO Rob McPhee said Ministerial visits provide DDHS a great opportunity to advocate on the issues that impact our clients.
