Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Services (DDHS) is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal community-controlled organisation that is committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) region in the Northern Territory.

We are focused on acute care, immunisation, chronic disease management, women’s health, men’s health, child and maternal health and sexual health.

We also provide a range of community programs in areas including health promotion, mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Mental Health Nurse is responsible for providing high quality mental health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with complex mental health conditions. This position will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including general practitioners (GPs), psychiatrists and allied health staff to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Deliver high level, evidence based mental health service to our clients with mental illness, to reduce and prevent repeated admissions to hospitals, and to reduce length of stay in hospitals where admission has occurred.
  • Apply professional judgement to a complex caseload and contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in accordance with best practice and clinical guidelines, ensuring collaboration with clients and the multidisciplinary team to achieve health goals and outcomes
  • Provide culturally appropriate interventions (including assessment, therapy, and case management) to individuals and groups.
  • Ensure the development of Mental Health Care Plans for clients and facilitate the provision of co-ordinated clinical care and treatment for referred clients.
