WHO ARE WE?

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.

We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people’s health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families, and communities to optimise their health.

WHAT YOU WILL FOCUS ON

The Public Health Manager will provide leadership and support to service wide public health programs including the Tackling Indigenous Smoking team, STI BBV staff and ARF/RHD clinical project lead. They will liaise with senior managers across Health Promotion and Program Integration and Clinical services to support the delivery of community education and promotional events across Danila Dilba Health Service.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support public health programs including integration in the clinics and community education.
  • Support and provide leadership for service wide health promotion training across DDHS, health promotion events, alongside the communications team and senior managers.
  • Ensure a Continuous Quality Improvement approach is taken with health promotion and community education.
  • Provide leadership and work collaboratively with members of the public health team, to ensure public health programs are meeting the needs of the DDHS community.
  • Lead the coordination, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking program.
  • Provide expert advice, project oversight and support for service wide public health programs such as the Rheumatic Heart Disease and STI/BBV projects.
  • Contribute to effective clinical governance arrangements that ensure high levels of quality and safety.
  • Actively model DDHS Code of Conduct Policy, Privacy and Confidentiality of Health Information Policy.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience Public Health/Population Health Coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability in use of program logic, planning, implementing, and evaluating projects.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, facilitation and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in supervising and supporting staff working in Health Promotion and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Well-developed formal written and verbal communication skills along with an ability to utilise appropriate data bases and other computer programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Aboriginal Community Controlled primary health care sector and the role of quality in primary health.

Desirable

  • Qualification related to health promotion/public health.
  • Previous work experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
