World Kidney Day is a great opportunity to advance kidney health and education…so how much do you know about your kidneys?

About the Kidneys

The kidneys are an incredible organ. They:

  • Filter waste
  • Regulate blood pressure
  • Balance electrolytes
  • Support red blood cell production and bone health

To protect your kidneys and keep them functioning properly, it’s important to drink plenty of water, eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Avoid:

  • Excessive alcohol
  • Too much salt and sugar
  • Smoking

Be cautious with, and limit:

  • Painkillers
  • Supplements

Did you Know…

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects over 1.7 million Australians, with the rates of kidney failure 20% higher for mob. To reduce the risk of CKD, it’s really important to manage conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Early detection is also key. Your kidneys can be tested through blood/urine tests, blood pressure checks and imaging, and it’s important to watch for warning signs like fatigue, swelling, or changes in urination.
