About Us:

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service is a community organisation providing comprehensive primary health care to Biluru communities in the Yilli Rreung Region of the Northern Territory. We aim to improve the physical, mental, spiritual, cultural and social wellbeing of our clients through innovative comprehensive programs based on principles of equity, access, empowerment, determination and collaboration.

 About the program:

The Youth Social Support Program (YSSP) seeks to provide a range of programs and activities, skills and tools to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in order to assist and address the issues that impact on their emotional and social situations. The committed to developing and delivering culturally safe, responsive programs that develop confidence and self-esteem, promote healthy lifestyles and encourage youth participation.

About the role:

The successful candidate will lead a small team and will be responsible for the operations and activities of the Youth Social Support Program. The position will coordinate and deliver activities and programs aimed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, including (but not limited to) support and advocacy, case management, therapeutic activities and social support programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning, developing and implementing programs and activities that are culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, including youth in contact with the justice system
  • Effectively engage with Indigenous young people to build positive relationships
  • Advocate on clients behalf and assist them in resolving issues affecting them, particularly in the detention setting
  • Establish links and develop relationships with youth sector agencies to complement and enhance YSSP programs and activities.
  • Participate in relevant policy development, project work and service evaluation.

Are you the right person?

The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to demonstrate awareness of, and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history and have a working knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal children and families, in particular those who have come into contact with the youth justice and child protection systems. 
  • Have demonstrated leadership and organisational abilities to understand and manage budget and people matters relevant to the operation of the program
  • Have high level communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to liaise with people from different cultures and social backgrounds
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends in the delivery of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal people
