‘Eat Well Feel Well’ at Darrandirra
Recently, DDHS Dietitian Bernadeen Gibb ran a series of healthy cooking classes at Darrandirra Child and Family Centre in Malak. The classes were part of the Eat Well Feel Well program, which runs three times a year as part of our Chronic Disease services. Clients are referred to the program for help managing diabetes and assistance in reducing weight.
This year’s first round of classes were held across four Wednesdays and had a great turnout! In them, Bernadeen workshopped healthy cooking ideas with the group and supported clients as they practiced their new skills by preparing lunch together. The lunch included:
- Affordable ingredients
- New ways to serve vegetables
- Examples of healthy portions
Eat Well Feel Well classes are all about healthy options for the whole family and trying new culturally and financially appropriate recipes that can make healthy lifestyle change easier. She caters to clients aged between 16 and 60 years old and, last year, even ran a successful men’s-only group, which she’s hoping to run again this year.
To see what the group got up to in the Eat Well Feel Well classes, take a look at the photos below. If they get your mouth watering like ours, speak to us about how you can join the program next time.
