What You Need to Know About Aged Care

Australian aged care is changing so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years or older have faster and simpler access to more culturally safe and appropriate aged care services.

The new Aged Care Act, including the Support at Home Program, will start on 1 November 2025.

Aged Care Services at DDHS

We offer a range of Aged Care Services and supports at Danila Dilba. These are funded through the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care (NATSIFAC) program and the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

We’re also a provider of the nationally recognised Elder Care Support Program, funded by NACCHO.

DDHS Aged Care Services staff work to help our Elders to continue to live safely and independently at home and in their communities. They help with:

  • Transport
  • Social activities and practical outings
  • Allied health services and equipment
  • Exercise and wellness activities
  • My Aged Care registration
  • Changing to the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS)
  • And more!

Our programs and services are available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50+ (or 45+ if homeless or at risk of homelessness) living in the Greater Darwin region.

The changes to aged care in Australia will allow us to continue supporting the rights and decisions of our Elders.

More Information for our Elders

There’s a range of information available to our Elders ahead of the changes to aged care in Australia starting this November. This includes the following brochures and videos (which our staff will also provide to the Elders in our care directly):
